Surf ORA - Surf Therapy
Surf ORA is an Aotearoa/New Zealand charity based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.
Established in 2024 Surf ORA utilises the powers of the moana (ocean) and waves to assist in recovery from addictions, psychosis and mental distress.
Surf ORA was born out of lived experience from our founder who used surfing as a wellbeing tool in his own recovery journey. This life skill taonga (treasure) has has enabled him to lead a flourishing life and he now wishes to empower others through Surf ORA.
Our programs are multi functional providing moana and surfing skills with aspects of Te Ao Māori being woven through each session by way of Te Whare Tapa Whā;
Taha Tinana (Physical)
Tana Hinengaro (Mental and Emotional)
Taha Wairua (Spiritual)
Taha Whanau (Family and Social)
We cater for adults over 18 years old, typically marginalised i.e. not in a position to self-fund or facilitate, and our demographic is 60/40 Male/Female and 60/40 Maori/non-Maori.
Having just completed our first full season having successfully delivered programs to organisations such as the Christchurch City Mission and Tōtara House, we are excited to expand our impact. Your support will help us grow and develop enabling us to reach and assist more persons in need.
Thank you so much /Ngā mihi nui.
