The Single Fin Mingle 2024
It all came down to the wire for our 10th annual Single Fin Mingle invitational surf competition. The judges were overwhelmed with talent this year as a selection of local & international surfers took to the water in some of the finest conditions the Mingle has seen in recent years. Some extremely classy surfing all round, with Mingle attire to match.
But there can only be one King and Queen of the Mingle and with an all international Women’s final it was Hawaiian Mason Schremmer who claimed her second SFM title ahead of impressive Noosa surfer Kirra Molnar taking 2nd, defending champion Natsumi Taoka of Japan 3rd and young Australian talent Jasmine Howarth taking 4th. With an extremely tight all Aotearoa Men’s final despite a star studded international lineup, it all came down to the two hometown heroes from Sumner with the young sensation Jack Tyro taking out the Men’s division with his critical nose-riding and slick footwork and Luke O’Neill taking 2nd, Dyan Barnfield from Gisborne taking 3rd and Jordan Griffin from Mount Maunganui taking 4th.
The sun decided to shine, the Jazz band started to play and the esplanade was a hive of activity with over 1000 spectators and Minglers buzzing between the stalls and the Parrotdog Pavilion which offered up front row seats to some world class traditional longboarding, all served with a cold Mingle Lager in hand.
